Ethan Felson
Ethan Felson Advocates for Equality and Justice
As the executive director of A Wider Bridge, a North American agency, Ethan Felson leads campaigns to fight bigotry including against antisemitism in the LGBTQ community and beyond. He also helps advance LGBTQ equality in Israel through AWB's grantmaking to Israeli LGBTQ groups. He developed AWB's We Refusteto Chose campaign which has served as a platform for queer Zionists to demand their place in the Jewish and LGBTQ community, rejecting subtle and not-so-subtle attempts to force people back into closets because of any part of their identity. The campaign was launched with a new Inclusive Jewish Pride flag which has been waved in pride parades around the world.
Previously, Mr. Felson served as the executive director of the Israel Action Network, part of the Jewish Federations of North America, where he networked with partners in religious groups and academia. In addition, he served as the senior vice president and general counsel of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. In these roles, he was one of the lead Jewish professionals working in the interfaith space and a point person countering attempts to delegitimize Israel through boycotts, divestment, and sanctions starting in 2004. Previously, he was the associate executive director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, where he helped launch the Jewish Coalition for Literacy, mobilized efforts to save a cherished Jewish day school, and helped to secure Jewish communal institutions after a spate of threats.
Mr. Felson has written for Sapir, the Washington Blade, the Forward, Gay City News, JTA, Sh'ma, and other publications; and has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and other publications. For several years, he wrote the annual article on Jewish National Affairs for the American Jewish Yearbook. After earning a BA from Lehigh University, he attained his law degree from the University of Connecticut. He serves on several boards and committees.
